What is Multi-Factor Authentication

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a security process that requires users to provide two or more verification factors to gain access to a system, application, or account. The goal is to enhance security by making it more difficult for unauthorized users to access sensitive data, even if they have stolen a password.

MFA relies on a combination of the following types of factors:

  1. Something you know like your password

  2. Something you have like your phone

  3. Something you are like your user name.
